Evidence for Survival involves the transference of information
to or through a living person from or by a source claiming to
be a deceased person. This information can be a fact such
as where the insurance papers are hidden or a skill
such as how to levitate a table.
The information
must be confirmable; "Tell mom I'm okay." is not evidence
of anything.
The strength of
the evidence depends on the existence and probability of explanations
alternative to Survival. The less feasible any alternative explanation
is for the transference of the information, the stronger the indication
of spirit involvement.
There is a difference
between evidence for the existence of another dimension or spirit
realm and evidence for the continuation of a particular human
personality within such a realm. Evidence sufficient to demonstrate
the former might not indicate the latter. Or, to put this in personal
terms, just because there is a heaven doesn't mean your great
granddad got there.
In line with the
above parameters, here is a sampling of evidential information,
marked according to what it indicates and how strongly. This table
includes only statements of fact made by an alleged spirit, the
evidential strength of which depends on how credible are the alternatives
of telepathy and clairvoyance. For a more complete listing that
covers visions, past-life recalls, physical manifestations, and
other phenomena, see the Evidence
Scoring System.
The more stars,
the stronger the evidence.
